Right now, you’re quite rightly, feeling pretty smug.
Your current position and title are fully deserved, Hard work and perseverance suits you.
You are respected by your peers, valued by your boss, and the technical aspect of your work is nothing short of outstanding. Your clients think you are approachable, professional, reliable and would say, if surveyed, you give nothing short of 100% every single time. A true credit.
You made it…
The only downside is, you are the best number three, four, maybe even five out there, you’re an ambitious small fish in a big stinky and sometimes ungrateful pond – and that’s not where you want to be.
In your head, you are ready, you’re capable of so much more, you have ideas that need to be seen as well as heard, you need to know that your six or seven years plus experience in consultancy or certainly within the development infrastructure arena, has all been worthwhile and want to see where it takes you at a much faster pace – you just need the right opportunity to present itself in the right format.
Your gut, which is never wrong, already knows this. In fact, it told you to start looking for a new, more aligned senior position months ago, but loyalty to the job along with your current boss, who relies on you heavily and the clients you never will let down, make an easy decision, well, quite difficult… We’ve all been there,

I’m representing a client offering that very position, the job you should already be in.
Answering only to the AD, you will be expected to challenge not only your team but your own capability around detailed design, leadership and client management far beyond your current scope. You’ll learn new skills, sharpen existing ones and spend a good deal of time outside your comfort zone, which is where the real magic lives.
A bit of geekery is fine too, in fact, the more obsessed you are about a quality product, knowing every output is 100% defendable – the more we’ll probably pay you. I’m not even kidding.
Beyond that, it’s about personal fit, show us you’re ready and we’ll bend over backwards to ensure your life with us is extremely comfortable in every way.

I am genuinely proud to be associated and to consult for this firm, and in over five years that I have known the co-directors, I have yet to have a crossed word – although I doubt there will ever need to be an occasion – I say that not through arrogance but with assurance and confidence that when any difficult conversation arises, no matter the subject – sit in a room with either director and very shortly the correct or well thought solutions are presented concisely and oozing with credibility.
It’s more than just intelligence however – exchange thoughts with these guys and you get the sense they just get it… and that applies not just to business strategy, leadership or their current direction but the deliverables, quality standards, client management or even the condition of the market, you name it – it’s an almost natural conversation that demands anyone listening, pay close attention.
Sure, there are plenty of smart people running smart businesses, I know a lot of them, but Rik and Rob transact in a way that draws you in and may just want you to understand and learn a little more.
The incessant attention to detail and common-sense application is executed throughout the business including their office locations, salaries, holidays and perks etc all finely balanced to ensure the hours you do spend at work compensate morally and ethically. This is reflected in their ridiculously low staff turnover in and the ability to attract hard to reach talent.
If you haven’t heard of them, you’re in for a surprise. If a small company ethos or mentality is for you with all the flexibility and trappings, then Cannon should be one for your shortlist of companies to consider without a doubt, as this kind of detail is rare in today’s market.
